Training

Wing Chun training is divided into the following empty-handed and weapons forms.

Level 1 — Siu Nam Tau

  • Translates into A Humble Beginning.
  • Students will develop a basic understanding of Wing Chun principles, stance, sun-style punching, two-handed techniques, forwards & backwards stepping, one-handed Chi-Sau (also known as sticking hands training) and stance disruption.

Level 2 — Chum Kiu

  • Translates into Bridging the Gap.
  • Students will further refine the basic skills of Wing Chun and also be introduced to the more dynamic techniques from Chum Kiu.  Kicking, kick-blocking, two-handed Chi-Sau and sparring will be introduced at this level.

Level 3 — Biu Jee

  • Translates into Aiming at the Target.
  • Students will train intermediate and advanced Chi-Sau techniques.
  • Fight strategy, throws, multi-angled attacks and blind-folded sparring will also be taught.
  • It is during this level that the students develop the ability to unleash explosive power contained within the Biu Jee movements.

Level 4 — Bart Cham Do

  • Translates into Method of 8 Slashes.
  • Students learn the traditional Wing Chun Butterfly Knives and further enhance their fighting skills.

Level 5 — Lok Dim Boon Kwan

  • Translates into 6 and 1/2 Point Spear.
  • Students learn the traditional Wing Chun Spear and develop valuable experience at fighting with weapons at various lengths.

Level 6 — Mook Yan Jong

  • Translates into Wooden-Man Dummy.
  • Students that have successfully completed levels 1 through 5 will be shown the traditional 108 Wooden Dummy techniques and how to utilize this valuable tool in developing fighting skills.
  • Also taught is the rarely seen Sahn Jong or Live Dummy. This is the 108 Dummy techniques applied to a living partner (that hits back).
